Ever had one of those days where everything that can go wrong seems to go wrong?
The Dogs had one of those days against the Adelaide Crows in Round 14, as the visitors hit Marvel Stadium with a job to do, and did that job all over the Dogs.
With a nine-goal first quarter blast, Jordan Dawson and his band of merry men tore the hearts out of the Dogs, and left them trying to play catch up for the remainder of the evening.
For the record, catching up was out of the question.
The Crows were a cut above. Jordan Dawson and Riley Thilthorpe finished the first quarter with six between them, as the Crows threatened a monster score. The Dogs gave a yelp after halftime , but the game was pretty much over, and everyone knew it. Adelaide were playing far too well to succumb to any attempted Bulldog comeback, and by the end of the game, the lead had stretched out to 57 points.
Truthfully, it probably flattered the Dogs, who were unable to draw inspiration from… anyone, really.
Despite having 57 touches between them, Bont and Ed Richards were both soundly beaten, and without their spark, the team did not possess the depth to truly challenge the Crows.
Did we just see a contender emerge and a pretender get exposed?

Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. We’re all in on the 2026 AFL season. Player articles, stats, awards, game coverage. Dump the mainstream lip service and dive into articles like this – you will never look back. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I consider it your loss as we get into the grind of the season, and you’re stuck with the stuff that’s frustrated you for years.
