It was a cold night in Tassie… that’s kind of like saying it was a rather damp day in the middle of the ocean, or a rather warm day in hell, I suppose. Anyway, a chilly night saw players with blankets on the bench like it was the 1970s, as the Hawks managed to get over the visiting Adelaide Crows in Round 11.
Both teams came into this one feeling as though it was one of those good, old-fashioned eight-point games, as the Hawks and Crows are considered to be contenders in 2026, but the season has not played out exactly as either team would have liked. The Crows were slow out of the blocks, and whilst they have found form in recent weeks, they were still in the bottom half of the top eight.
Meanwhile, the Hawks had run into a roadblock recently, with a draw and two losses the last three weeks.
The Crows shot out of the gates like a team with something to prove, and should have been much further in front of the Hawks at quarter time. However, as so often happens, when you leave opportunities on the table, they’ll be gone before you know it, and at halftime, the Hawks had turned a two-goal deficit into a 13-point lead.
With both teams squandering chances, just seven goals dotted the second half, with Hawthorn running out nine-point winners.
Your old pal, HB, has been taking notes like a wild man all throughout the game, and now presents to you his… tales of interest.

Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. We’re all in on the 2026 AFL season. Player articles, stats, awards, game coverage. Dump the mainstream lip service and dive into articles like this – you will never look back. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I consider it your loss as we get into the grind of the season, and you’re stuck with the stuff that’s frustrated you for years.
