I love a good game of footy. I don’t care who is playing, or where they’re playing – when you put two teams out there that have a fair dinkum crack, I am all in on it.
That’s what we got in the cracker between the Giants and Bombers, as Essendon played excellent football for three quarters, and the Giants stormed home to pinch it.
Fielding a young side, the Bombers were always going to be up against it late in the piece, with the Giants’ experience and power running too much for them late in the game.
The game was on a knife’s edge in the last, as the Bombers peppered their forward line, and Jayden Nguyen had a chance to kick a massive goal in the contest of the game.
Enter Connor Idun.
Idun is one of those players who does everything well, and in this case, he executed a perfect smother to both snuff out an Essendon goal, and inspire his team to go onto win.
The Giants were also well-served by former Bomber, Jayden Laverde, who continued to reward the faith GWS placed in him at the end of the 2025 season.
Plenty to get through in this one, including some really positive signs for both teams. You know me… I love the positives.
Let’s jump into The Big Questions.
This is just the introduction – the remainder of this article is for our members. They support me, and I provide for them. It’s a good deal.
Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. We’re all in on the 2026 AFL season. Player articles, stats, awards, game coverage. Dump the mainstream lip service and dive into articles like this – you will never look back. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I consider it your loss as we get into the grind of the season, and you’re stuck with the stuff that’s frustrated you for years.
