Of all the AAMI Series games, this was that held the most interest for me. Not that I follow either team, but I felt this game would give us an excellent reflection of where both St Kilda and Essendon are at currently, and more importantly, where they could get to.
It was a tight tussle until the halftime break, with both teams looking good in transition, despite some pretty ordinary February skills.
However, as we turned to the second half, it was the Saints who elevated their game, and the Bombers couldn’t go with them. That’s not to say there weren’t some things worth taking note of for Essendon, but the Saints just seemed to possess more firepower, and a better balanced team.
A heap to get through in this one, and as I have one of our new mongrels covering the next game for us, it gives me the scope to spend a little more time on this review.
Let’s jump into the Good, Bad, and Ugly of the Saints win over the Bombers.

Oh… a Mongrel paywall… the worst of all paywalls. We’re on the march to the 2026 AFL season and we’re working through the Match Sims, AAMI Series, and Player-specific articles… we’re all in. Dump the mainstream lip service and dive into articles like this – you will never look back. If you don’t want to, that’s fine. I consioder it your loss as we get into the grind of the season, and you’re stuck with the stuff that’s frustrated you for years.
