2026 Match Sim – Gold Coast v St Kilda

The game degenerated as things got slippery, but it was the Saints that adapted better, holding the Suns goalless for two-straight quarters as they flexed a bit of muscle.

In the grand scheme of things, nobody will point to the Match Sim in February as the seminal moment of the St Kilda season, but even though it was “just a Match Sim”, getting on the road, having all your recruits play together, and watching some of the younger players lift must be gratifying for St Kilda supporters.

At the other end of the spectrum were the Suns. They, too, had some big name recruits to unveil, and they got very mixed results from them.

It was not a night for key forwards, but it was a night for the Saints to set the tone for the 2026 campaign, and to win at People First Stadium – something very few have done over the last couple of years – was a great way to kick start their year.

Time to have a look at what happened, and why it played out that way.
