Essendon cannot take a trick, at the moment.
They have been whacked by their fans and the wider AFL community for the way they capitulated in both of the last two seasons, bundled out of the finals race without giving so much as a yelp, and now, as they start to look at some of the reasons for their decline, we find that they’re not even allowed to do that.
In the eyes of some, anyway.
There are some very short memories in both the AFL Media and AFL fandom. I shook my head this morning as I read reports about how the Bombers were playing with fire when it comes to the contract situation of “Loveable Rogue” Jake Stringer. Apparently, the Bombers are leaning toward offering just the one-year trigger his current deal affords him, and making him earn any extended contract.
The thing that surprised me was how many Bomber fans are now seemingly on Stringer’s side.
Amazing, really.
“What else does he have to do?” This was the question asked on social media by an Essendon supporter who evidently came down in the last shower.
How about I help you out with that, champ?
